5.8 Magnitude Earthquake in Indonesia: 29 Injured and Several Aftershocks Recorded

A magnitude 5.8 earthquake shook eastern Indonesia on Sunday morning, resulting in at least 29 injuries, according to data from the U.S. Geological Survey.
The earthquake’s epicenter was located approximately 15 kilometers north of the Poso district in Central Sulawesi province. Local authorities reported that the event was followed by at least 15 aftershocks.
Indonesia, a vast archipelago situated on the Pacific “Ring of Fire,” frequently experiences seismic activity. This region of the globe is characterized by intense tectonic activity, with tectonic plates often colliding.
To recall, in January 2021, a magnitude 6.2 earthquake had already struck the island of Sulawesi, leading to over 100 fatalities and leaving thousands of residents homeless.
