Strong Earthquake Strikes Near Tonga

A magnitude 7.6 earthquake shook the region near Tonga on Tuesday, according to the U.S. Geological Survey (USGS).

The epicenter of the tremor was located 153 kilometers west of Nukuʻalofa, the second-largest city in the archipelago.

So far, there have been no reports of casualties or material damage, and no tsunami warning has been issued.

It’s important to note that Central America frequently experiences seismic activity due to the convergence of the Caribbean and Cocos tectonic plates in this area of the Pacific.
