Mohammed V University: Quality at the Heart of Progress

Rabat – The embedding of a quality culture in higher education is a crucial lever for enhancing university performance and increasing universities’ contributions to national development. This was affirmed by participants during a meeting organized on Tuesday by Mohammed V University (UM5) in Rabat, in celebration of World Quality Day, under the theme: “Quality at the University: Thinking Differently”.
A Participatory Vision of University Quality
This meeting allowed for an examination of quality not as an administrative burden, but as a philosophy of action, rooted in innovation, participation, and collective responsibility. Discussions highlighted the need to modernize pedagogical practices, integrate digitalization, and place the student at the heart of the university transformation process.
Mohamed El Ghachi: “Thinking Differently Means Innovating Together”
The president of UM5, Mohamed El Ghachi, emphasized that “thinking differently about quality” involves adopting an innovative mindset that encourages cooperation, creativity, and institutional renewal. He stressed the importance of stimulating collective intelligence, developing an organizational culture, and making pedagogical practices more inclusive and interactive.
Mr. El Ghachi also highlighted the significance of digital governance, which is seen as a strategic pillar of the Moroccan university development project for 2024–2028, placing the student at the center of the quality approach.
An Approach Aligned with Sustainable Development Goals
Mohammed V University works to make quality a tool for innovation and sustainability in line with the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs). The institution is committed to enhancing transparency, equity, social responsibility, and academic excellence while integrating artificial intelligence technologies in university management.
ANEAQ: “Evaluate to Evolve”
Rachid Hilal, the director of the National Agency for Evaluation and Assurance of Quality in Higher Education and Scientific Research (ANEAQ), reminded us that quality is now an essential national mission. Under the slogan “Evaluate to Evolve”, the agency has assisted 79 higher education institutions in their institutional evaluation processes, fostering strategic diagnostics aimed at continuous improvement.
A Concrete Commitment to Institutional Performance
Zineb Alaoui, representative of the UM5 internal quality assurance office, presented the steps taken towards the establishment of a comprehensive quality system. This initiative aims to improve institutional performance, enhance transparency, and optimize efficiency indicators across all university structures.
A Collective Project in Service of Students and Society
According to the organizers, this meeting reflects Mohammed V University’s commitment to making quality a driver of progress and inclusion. It aligns with a participatory and integrated approach, emphasizing the values of justice, equal opportunity, and continuous improvement.
Through this initiative, the university confirms its role as a pioneer in the modernization of Moroccan higher education and its commitment to providing educational excellence for national development.
