Agadir Hosts the Main Planning Meeting
As part of the preparations for the multinational military exercise African Lion 2026, the main planning meeting is taking place from December 8 to 12, 2025, at the Southern Zone Headquarters in Agadir. Representatives from several partner countries, including Morocco and the United States, are participating, according to a statement from the General Staff of the Royal Armed Forces (FAR).
Interoperability, Logistics, and Joint Operations
This strategic meeting aims to deepen discussions on interoperability, logistics, and the integration of forces involved in the exercise. Topics of discussion cover a wide range of areas including air, land, maritime operations, as well as special operations.
A Major Exercise Scheduled from April to May 2026
The African Lion 2026 exercise is set to take place from April 20 to May 8, 2026, across several regions of the Kingdom: Agadir, Tan Tan, Taroudant, Kénitra, and Ben Guérir. The central objective is to strengthen interoperability among participating armies, improve operational readiness, develop the capacity to conduct combined and joint operations, and enhance regional security and stability.
Confirmed International Commitment
According to the FAR, over 40,000 military personnel participated in the last five editions of this flagship exercise. This figure underscores the growing commitment of international partners and highlights the significance of this event, considered the largest military exercise in Africa.
