Agricultural Campaign 2024-2025: Grain Forecasts Show Significant Increase Due to Spring Rains

Initial estimates indicate a significant improvement in cereal production for the 2024-2025 agricultural season, which is expected to reach 44 million quintals, marking a 41% increase compared to the previous season. This was revealed on Tuesday in Meknès by the Minister of Agriculture, Maritime Fisheries, Rural Development, and Water and Forestry, Ahmed El Bouari.
Speaking at the opening of a high-level international conference held during the 17th edition of the International Agricultural Show in Morocco (SIAM), the Minister described the current campaign as “promising on all levels.” He emphasized that despite a challenging start to the season, the abundant rainfall recorded in March and early April has significantly improved agricultural conditions throughout the country.
According to him, these rains have led to a marked improvement in the vegetative cover of autumn cereals, particularly in the most favorable agricultural areas, which has positively impacted yields.
Beyond cereals, the positive developments in spring crops, the recovery observed in livestock due to the recent rains, and the performance of other agricultural sectors allow for an estimated growth of 5.1% in the agricultural sector for this campaign, a stark contrast to the -4.8% decline recorded last year.
Under the High Patronage of His Majesty King Mohammed VI, SIAM 2025 will be held until April 27 in Meknès, welcoming 1,500 exhibitors from 70 countries. Organized under the theme “Agriculture and the Rural World: Water at the Heart of Sustainable Development”, this show serves as a major platform for dialogue on agricultural policies, the promotion of international partnerships, and the highlighting of concrete solutions to address the sector’s challenges.
