A Steadfast Vision Under the Leadership of King Mohammed VI
In an interview with the Spanish daily La Razón, Prime Minister Aziz Akhannouch emphasized the clarity and strength of Morocco’s position regarding the Sahara issue. He stated that, under the guidance of His Majesty King Mohammed VI, Morocco maintains a firm, just, and indisputable stance, grounded in coherent diplomacy and a strategic vision.
An Approach Based on Diverse Partnerships
Akhannouch recalled that the Moroccan strategy is based on diversifying and intensifying international partnerships, with clear support for national sovereignty at the heart of these relationships.
He highlighted the recent UN Security Council resolution, which he described as a “just and fair” decision, representing a decisive step towards a lasting resolution to this artificial conflict.
A Historic Opportunity for a Stabilized Regional Future
According to the Prime Minister, this resolution places each party before its responsibilities and paves the way for a harmonious regional environment focused on development, peace, and prosperity in the Southern regions.
It also creates a conducive framework for constructive dialogue, with no winners or losers, respecting the dignity of all, in accordance with King Mohammed VI’s message in His latest Throne Speech.
26 Years of Royal Diplomacy Recognized Internationally
Akhannouch noted that Moroccan diplomacy, characterized by 26 years of wisdom and realism, has granted the Kingdom significant international credibility. This consistency has enabled a major diplomatic turning point on the Sahara issue.
Strategic Convergence Between Rabat and Madrid
He also highlighted the strategic alignment between Morocco and Spain regarding the Sahara, praising the clarity and consistency of Spain’s position, which aligns fully with the Security Council resolutions.
This convergence serves as a fundamental pillar of trust between the two countries and a factor for stability in the African, Mediterranean, and Atlantic regions.
Dynamic Morocco-Spain Relations
Akhannouch emphasized the strength of the partnership between Rabat and Madrid, characterized in recent years by significant political stability, constant dialogue, and a deep mutual respect.
He reminded listeners that Spain is now Morocco’s top trading partner, while Morocco is Spain’s primary supplier and client in Africa.
Close Economic and Human Ties
Over 800 Spanish companies are established in Morocco, and nearly 12,000 Moroccan companies engage in trade with Spain.
Additionally, there is a strong human connection: nearly one million Moroccans reside in Spain, and an active Spanish community is present in Morocco.
A Balanced Migration Cooperation Model
The Prime Minister emphasized the close collaboration between the two countries on migration, rooted in a comprehensive, responsible approach focused on joint efforts against irregular migration and trafficking networks.
A Partnership Strengthened by Structuring Agreements
The recent High-Level Meeting between Morocco and Spain in Madrid illustrated the bilateral dynamics, with the signing of 14 agreements covering several key sectors.
Akhannouch concluded by emphasizing that relations between the two countries are now based on strong political foundations, sustainable dialogue, and a shared vision.
