At just 3 years old, an Indian becomes the youngest rated chess player.

At merely three years, seven months, and twenty days, Indian prodigy Sarwagya Singh Kushwaha has achieved the title of the youngest chess player ever rated by the International Chess Federation (FIDE).

Currently enrolled in preschool in the state of Madhya Pradesh, Kushwaha surpasses the previous record set in November 2024 by Anish Sarkar, who was three years, eight months, and nineteen days old at the time.

Kushwaha achieved a rapid game rating of 1,572. To be included in the official ranking, a player must defeat at least one opponent who is already rated. This ranking reflects performance but does not denote a specific tier.

World number one, Norwegian Magnus Carlsen, currently leads the FIDE rapid chess ranking with a score of 2,824 points.
