Azilal: Recent Rainfall Boosts Fruit Tree Productivity

Recent Rainfall Boosts Fruit Tree Productivity in Azilal Province
The recent rainfalls in the province of Azilal are expected to have a positive impact on the productivity of key fruit trees, thereby reinforcing the central role of agriculture in the local economy, according to the Regional Office for Agricultural Development of Tadla (ORMVAT).
These rains, which come after several years marked by drought periods, have had a dual beneficial effect: they have rejuvenated soil moisture and ensured a balanced distribution of water, thus promoting harmonious growth of fruit trees and enhancing local crop production, the ORMVAT emphasized in a statement.
According to data from the Office, Azilal province recorded a rainfall total of 242.9 mm, demonstrating a significant improvement compared to the previous year, which saw only 183.5 mm—an increase of approximately 32%.
As for snowfall, measurements indicate that it has reached over 55 cm in some of the higher elevations of the province. The Office reminded that these rains and snowfall will greatly benefit olive trees, which span an area of 35,211 hectares, as well as apple trees covering 2,222 hectares and almond trees across 18,000 hectares.
This revival of water conditions favors the growth of these fruit trees and points to a notable potential improvement in production following several years of instability due to drought, the Office noted. It stated that these precipitation events represent a genuine opportunity for the farmers of Azilal to enhance fruit tree production and diversify their crops.
