Aziz Akhannouch announces his resignation as president of the RNI.

Aziz Akhannouch has announced that he will not seek a third term as the head of the National Rally of Independents (RNI), thereby concluding his leadership journey at the end of his second mandate. This decision was made public following a meeting of the party’s political bureau.
Describing this meeting as “one of the most emotional” of his career, Akhannouch stated that members of the leadership had urged him to accept a new mandate, but he chose to remain true to the party’s principles.
Respect for Statutes and Internal Governance
The outgoing president of the RNI explained that his refusal of a third mandate is based on his commitment to respecting the party’s statutes and internal governance rules, believing that political credibility primarily hinges on adherence to institutional regulations.
An Extraordinary Congress Scheduled in El Jadida
In this context, the RNI will hold an extraordinary congress on February 7 in El Jadida to elect a new president.
The political bureau also validated the list of members for the preparatory committee tasked with organizing this congress.
The application period for presidential candidacies will be open from January 12 to 21 at the RNI’s central headquarters in Rabat.
Support for Policies Promoting the Amazigh Language
Additionally, the RNI’s political bureau praised government measures aimed at strengthening the implementation of the official status of the Amazigh language, particularly in the fields of education, administration, media, and culture.
The party believes these initiatives contribute to preserving Moroccan national identity and consolidating the values of pluralism and cultural diversity.
A Positive Government Assessment
The political bureau also expressed satisfaction with the government’s achievements, which were described as “exceptional,” particularly in economic and social sectors. According to the RNI, these results are corroborated by various indicators from national and international institutions.
Reforms and Governance at the Heart of Priorities
These advancements are attributed to the significant reform choices made by the Executive and the gradual implementation of structural projects, such as the expansion of social protection, investment support, and the strengthening of social cohesion.
However, the party insisted on the necessity of continuing efforts to enhance the effectiveness of public policies and reinforce the principles of good governance to ensure the sustainability of achieved gains.
Internal Party Life and New Publication
Finally, the political bureau celebrated the success of the ordinary session of the RNI’s National Council, considering it a reflection of the party’s positive dynamics and the strengthening of internal democracy.
The meeting was also marked by the presentation of a new publication by Mustapha Baitas titled “The Path of Achievements”, based on twelve communication tours that gathered over 38,000 participants, as well as the results from the “Discussions of Independents” organized in 77 municipalities across the Kingdom.
