Barcelona Signs Rashford and Joan Garcia Despite Financial Constraints

FC Barcelona has officially registered its two main summer signings with La Liga: Catalan goalkeeper Joan Garcia and English forward Marcus Rashford.

At 24 years old, Joan Garcia arrives from Espanyol for a fee of €25 million. Meanwhile, Marcus Rashford joins Barcelona on a loan deal with an option to buy from Manchester United. Both players are now, at least temporarily, on the list of registered players eligible to participate in La Liga, allowing them to take part in the season opener against Mallorca, scheduled for this Saturday at 7:30 PM.

Despite the ongoing economic challenges linked to the renovation of Camp Nou, the Catalan club has skillfully maneuvered to meet Financial Fair Play requirements. Key moves that facilitated these registrations include:

  • The transfer of Iñigo Martínez to the Saudi club Al-Nassr.

  • The permanent sale of Francisco Trincão’s rights to Sporting Portugal.

  • The extension of Jules Koundé’s contract until 2030, allowing for the spreading out of his salary cap.

Barcelona was also able to take advantage of Marc-André ter Stegen’s recent back surgery, which allowed Joan Garcia to step in as a replacement in the official squad.

However, some players are still awaiting administrative validation, including:

  • Wojciech Szczesny, the Polish goalkeeper.

  • Gerard Martín and Héctor Fort, young defenders.

  • Marc Bernal, a defensive midfielder.

  • And Roony Bardghji, a Swedish talent considered the third major signing of the transfer window.

Barcelona hopes to finalize these registrations quickly to have all their resources available for the upcoming matches.
