CAF Champions League: Berkane Upsets Nigeria’s Rivers United

The Renaissance Sportive de Berkane (RSB) triumphed over Nigerian club Rivers United with a score of 2-1 in the second round of Group A of the CAF Champions League, held Friday at the Godswill Akpabio Stadium in Uyo.
After a balanced start to the match, the home team began to create dangerous offensive opportunities, pressing for their first goal.
The Nigerians struck first, taking the lead in the 38th minute when Senegalese player Mamadou Lamine Camara inadvertently scored an own goal, giving Rivers United the upper hand.
In the second half, RSB intensified their efforts to equalize. The Berkane side managed to level the score during stoppage time, with Youness El Kaabi scoring in the 90+7th minute. Just two minutes later, Mounir Chouiar doubled the lead in the 90+9th minute, capitalizing on a mistake by the Nigerian goalkeeper.
With this victory, the Oriental club leads Group A with six points, significantly strengthening their chances of advancing to the next stage, ahead of their upcoming match against Egypt’s Pyramids.
In another Group A match, Zambian team Power Dynamos will face off against Egyptian side Pyramids on Saturday.
