Carlo Ancelotti Officially Appointed Head Coach of Brazil After Lengthy Negotiations

Carlo Ancelotti Officially Named Head Coach of Brazil’s National Football Team

The Brazilian Football Confederation (CBF) announced on Monday the official appointment of Italian coach Carlo Ancelotti as the new head coach of the Brazil national team, drawing an end to several months of speculation and tense negotiations.

With his contract at Real Madrid now concluded, Ancelotti takes the reins of the Seleção, tasked with the mission of returning Brazil to the pinnacle of global football.

“Bringing Carlo Ancelotti in to coach Brazil is more than just a strategic choice. It’s a strong message: we aim to reclaim the top step of the podium,” stated CBF President Ednaldo Rodrigues.

The president praised the arrival of one of the most decorated coaches in history, emphasizing that he will now form a symbolic duo with one of the most legendary teams in world football.

This appointment concludes a lengthy period of discussions that began in 2023, during which Ancelotti repeatedly turned down the Brazilian offer despite the CBF’s ongoing interest. At the end of April, he officially declined the proposal once more, citing his commitment to Real Madrid through 2026.

A dispute with the Madrid club, which refused to release its coach before the FIFA Club World Cup, also contributed to the delay in the announcement. Ancelotti’s request for a severance package of €4 million was reportedly rejected by Real Madrid president Florentino Pérez, while the CBF refrained from paying that sum.

Despite receiving a colossal offer from a Saudi club—estimated at nearly €50 million net per season—Ancelotti opted to extend his contract with Madrid temporarily in December, adding to the uncertainty surrounding his future.

According to various Spanish media outlets, Real Madrid may have already reached an agreement with Xabi Alonso, the current coach of Bayer Leverkusen, to succeed Ancelotti in the managerial role at the Bernabéu.
