Celebration of FIFA Badge Ceremony for Moroccan Referees
On Wednesday, a ceremony took place at the Mohammed VI Football Complex in Mâamora, where Moroccan referees were awarded their “FIFA Referee” badges. This event was organized by the Central Arbitration Commission (CCA) and the National Arbitration Directorate (DNA), under the auspices of the Royal Moroccan Football Federation (FRMF) and the National Professional Football League (LNFP). Notable attendees included Fouzi Lekjaa, president of the FRMF, and Abdeslam Belkchour, president of the LNFP.
In his speech, Fouzi Lekjaa emphasized that the development of refereeing is crucial for the advancement of Moroccan football. He stated that refereeing must play a key role in the progression of national football, and this progress should be approached realistically and constructively, allowing for the identification and bridging of existing gaps.
"Our goal is to make refereeing a major component of the ongoing development of Moroccan football," asserted Fouzi Lekjaa. He also reminded the audience that the role of a referee is complex, requiring immediate and firm decisions, highlighting the importance of ethics and values alongside law and technology in fulfilling this mandate.
Abdeslam Belkchour, for his part, stressed the importance of refereeing in the evolution of football. He encouraged more focus on the technical aspects of referees, beyond their mistakes, in order to better promote and elevate Moroccan football.
Bouchaib Lahrach, president of the CCA, pointed out that the Moroccan referees, now recognized as FIFA officials, are ambassadors for the national whistle on continental and international stages. He also mentioned the need to bolster the significance of local competitions alongside major international events.
Finally, Redouane Jiyed, director of the DNA, highlighted the importance of continuous training for improving referees’ performances. He encouraged Moroccan referees to persevere in their efforts and maintain their dedication.
The ceremony also served as an opportunity to pay tribute to retired referees who have made significant contributions over many years on both national and international football fields.
