Commissioning of the Brackish Groundwater Desalination Plant in Missour to Strengthen Water Security in the Fès-Meknès Region

As part of efforts to enhance water security and improve drinking water quality, Mr. Allal El Baz, Governor of the Boulemane province, presided over the official inauguration of the desalination plant for brackish groundwater in the city of Missour this morning, in the presence of various local officials and stakeholders.
The ceremony was attended by Mr. Mohamed Chaoui, General Director of the Fès-Meknès Multi-Service Regional Company, as well as Mr. Abdelaziz El Youssi, provincial director of the company in Boulemane, alongside representatives from local authorities and various partners involved in the water sector.
The construction of this infrastructure is part of a partnership agreement involving the Ministry of the Interior, the Fès-Meknès Region, the Souss-Massa Multi-Service Regional Company, and the Fès-Meknès Multi-Service Regional Company. This collaboration aims to develop innovative and sustainable solutions to ensure a reliable supply of drinking water.
With a production capacity of 3 liters per second, the plant will provide drinking water for more than 5,000 residents, which accounts for nearly 18% of the population of Missour. It utilizes a treatment process that converts brackish groundwater into water that complies with current quality standards.
The development and operation of this station have been carried out by the Fès-Meknès Multi-Service Regional Company, in line with its mission to ensure sustainable management of water services and hydraulic infrastructure, while maintaining the continuity and quality of public service.
This project aligns with the strategic direction aimed at diversifying water supply sources and utilizing unconventional solutions, particularly the desalination of brackish water, to address water stress and secure a steady supply of drinking water.
It is also part of a regional program that plans to establish 11 similar stations throughout the Fès-Meknès region, thus contributing to the strengthening of water security and the sustainable development of the territory.
