Consultative Meeting in Riyadh: Iranian Attacks Are Unjustifiable and Must Cease Immediately

Consultative Ministerial Meeting in Riyadh Calls for End to Iranian Attacks

A consultative ministerial meeting was held in Riyadh from Wednesday night to Thursday, asserting that no justification exists for the Iranian attacks against Gulf countries, Jordan, Azerbaijan, and Turkey, regardless of the pretexts provided. The participants emphasized the right of every state to defend itself in accordance with Article 51 of the United Nations Charter.

Foreign ministers from Saudi Arabia, the United Arab Emirates, Bahrain, Qatar, Kuwait, Jordan, Egypt, Lebanon, Syria, Pakistan, Turkey, and Azerbaijan expressed their condemnation and outrage over the deliberate Iranian attacks carried out using ballistic missiles and drones, targeting residential areas and civilian infrastructures, including oil facilities, desalination stations, airports, residential buildings, and diplomatic missions.

In a joint statement, the ministers called on Iran to immediately cease its attacks, adhere to international and humanitarian law, and respect the principles of good neighborliness. This was framed as a necessary first step towards de-escalation and to ensure security and stability in the region. They identified diplomacy as the preferred means to resolve these crises.

The ministers also underscored that the future of relations with Iran hinges on respect for the sovereignty of states, non-interference in their internal affairs, and an end to any attacks on their territories or any military capabilities that threaten regional countries.

Finally, the participants insisted on the necessity for Iran to comply with Security Council Resolution 2817, to halt all attacks immediately, to refrain from any provocation or threats towards neighboring states, and to cease its support, financing, or arming of militias operating in Arab countries, which serve its objectives contrary to the interests of those states.
