Coup d’État in Guinea-Bissau: A Nation in Turmoil
According to local sources, Umaro Sissoco Embaló, the president of Guinea-Bissau, initially deployed special forces to ensure the continuation of the election results announcement process, a military operation led by Y.C. Reports indicate that the president of the National Election Commission (CNE) was attacked by coup plotters, with gunfire heard in the vicinity of the CNE. He, along with other commission members, has been secured in a safe location by the special forces.
Motivated by the opposition, military personnel orchestrated a coup d’état to prevent the proclamation of election results declaring the victory of Umaro Sissoco EMBALO. All roads have been blocked since 2 PM today, and despite the special forces’ intervention at the CNE, the presidential palace remains besieged. A televised announcement is underway to declare the coup against the president of Guinea-Bissau.
Our sources indicate that the president is in a secure location and insists that all is well; however, the military coup has been confirmed.
