Cybersecurity: Morocco Under Pressure Amid Intensifying Attacks
The increasing number of cyberattacks poses an unprecedented challenge for Morocco: to protect a rapidly expanding digital space while safeguarding its sovereignty. A Massive and Constant Threat
In recent years, cyberattacks have escalated markedly. The incident affecting the National Social Security Fund (CNSS), which saw the leak of data belonging to millions of insured individuals, serves as a stark indication of existing vulnerabilities. Since then, the situation has significantly worsened.
By 2025, the General Directorate for Information Systems Security (DGSSI) reported 879 major cyberattacks, with over a hundred requiring direct intervention. Concurrently, more than 20 million intrusion attempts were detected within just six months, illustrating the ongoing pressure on national systems.
An Increasingly Targeted Country
Beyond the numbers, the nature of the attacks is evolving. Morocco has become one of the African countries most exposed to state-sponsored cyberattacks. This geopolitical dimension reflects the Kingdom’s growing strategic importance in regional economic and digital exchanges.
Critical infrastructure, public institutions, and large enterprises are becoming prime targets in a global context marked by rising tensions in cyberspace.

In the face of these risks, cybersecurity is emerging as a cornerstone of national sovereignty. Morocco’s strategy for 2030 aims to build a resilient digital ecosystem capable of preventing, detecting, and responding effectively to threats.
The focus is on protecting sensitive infrastructures, improving governance, and developing local skills. The objective is clear: to reduce technological dependence and enhance the country’s autonomy in a domain that has become highly strategic.
