Davis Cup: Italy Defeats Spain to Claim Third Consecutive Title

Italy Clinches Third Consecutive Davis Cup Title
On Sunday in Bologna, Italy’s team secured its third consecutive Davis Cup title and the fourth in its history, triumphing over Spain with a decisive 2-0 victory in the final.
Flavio Cobolli, ranked 22nd in the world, delivered the pivotal point for the Italian team by winning against Spain’s Jaume Munar (ranked 36th) in three sets: 1-6, 7-6 (7/5), 7-5. Earlier in the day, Matteo Berrettini (ranked 56th) had put Italy on the scoreboard by overpowering Pablo Carreno (ranked 89th) with a score of 6-3, 6-4.
After defeating Austria 2-0 on Wednesday in the quarterfinals, and then Belgium with the same score on Friday in the semifinals, Italy remained undefeated throughout the finals, hosted on its home soil for the first time after several editions held in Malaga, Spain.
No country had won three consecutive editions of the Silver Salad Bowl since the United States, which accomplished the feat five times in a row between 1968 and 1972.
Italy celebrated its fourth Davis Cup victory on Sunday (following wins in 1976, 2023, and 2024)—an achievement made even more remarkable in the absence of world No. 2 Jannik Sinner and No. 8 Lorenzo Musetti, both unavailable as they prepare for the 2026 season or due to personal reasons.
