Trump Extends Trade Truce with China for 90 Days

U.S. President Donald Trump has decided to extend the trade truce with China concerning tariffs for an additional 90 days, according to reports from American media on Monday.

To formalize this decision, the President signed a decree extending the suspension of new tariffs until mid-November, as cited by local press and a White House official.

Observers see this extension as a logical continuation of recent discussions between American and Chinese negotiators. The two economic powerhouses, which have been embroiled in a trade war marked by high tariffs since the spring, had previously agreed to a 90-day ceasefire in May in Geneva.

This temporary agreement capped the U.S. tariffs on Chinese products at 30%, while the tariffs imposed by China on American imports were set at 10%.

Since then, several rounds of negotiations have taken place, including meetings in London and Stockholm, involving high-ranking officials from both sides aimed at avoiding further escalation and preserving the fragile balance that has been achieved.

Earlier in the day, Trump assured that discussions with Beijing were progressing "rather well," while praising his "excellent relations" with Chinese President Xi Jinping. Meanwhile, China has expressed a desire to reach a "positive" outcome in these trade discussions.
