Drama off Lampedusa: Approximately twenty dead and missing in a shipwreck

Another tragedy in the Mediterranean: a shipwreck near the Italian island of Lampedusa has reportedly resulted in the death of approximately twenty individuals, according to a spokesperson from the United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees (UNHCR), who spoke on the social media platform X on Wednesday.

“There is profound anguish in response to this latest shipwreck off Lampedusa, where the UNHCR is supporting the survivors,” stated Filippo Ungaro. He added that around 20 bodies had been recovered, while a similar number of individuals remain missing.
