Moroccan Writer and Anthropologist Faouzi Skali Receives the Gold Medal from "La Renaissance Française"
On Wednesday evening, Moroccan writer and anthropologist Faouzi Skali was honored with the Gold Medal from "La Renaissance Française" for his commitment to fostering intercultural and interfaith dialogue. A specialist in Sufism, he received this distinction at a ceremony organized by the Moroccan Embassy in Belgium and the Association of Friends of Morocco.
Denis Fadda, the international president of La Renaissance Française, highlighted that Skali’s work reflects his awareness of the ideological challenges that divide cultures. By exploring Sufi mysticism, he promotes a platform for dialogue based on universal values.
The Moroccan ambassador to Belgium, Mohamed Ameur, emphasized Skali’s ability to resonate with a Francophone audience while remaining deeply rooted in his Moroccan identity, making him a writer capable of transcending cultural boundaries.
Skali expressed his gratitude for this recognition, which shines a light on Morocco’s interculturality, while calling for continued efforts to bridge cultures, especially in the face of extremism.
Regarded as one of the foremost experts in Sufism, Skali is also the founder of festivals dedicated to sacred music and Sufi culture, thereby contributing to the promotion of values that foster coexistence.
