Fez: The toll from the collapse of the two buildings rises to 22 dead and 16 injured.

The death toll from the collapse of two buildings in the Al Moustakbal neighborhood of the Al Massira sector in Fès during the night from Tuesday to Wednesday has risen to 22 dead and 16 injured of varying severity, according to local authorities in the Fès prefecture.

Preliminary data indicates that the collapsed buildings were constructed in 2006 as part of self-construction efforts for residents of the “Ain Smen” locality under the “Fès, a City Without Slums” program.

In parallel with the judicial investigation supervised by the competent prosecutor’s office, administrative inquiries have been initiated. A technical assessment has also been commissioned to a specialized consulting firm to collect all relevant data regarding this incident, identify the technical causes behind the collapse of the two buildings, and determine any procedural failings that may have tainted the legal processes and regulatory standards in urban planning and construction, the same source notes.

According to local authorities, these administrative and technical inquiries aim to establish administrative and technical responsibilities related to this tragedy.
