FIFA Ranking: The Atlas Lionesses Close 2025 on a Decline

The Moroccan women’s national team concludes the year 2025 on a mixed note, dropping two places in the new FIFA ranking published this Thursday. With 1,399.54 points—7.68 points less than during the previous update—the Lionesses now sit at 66th in the world, a consequence of a series of four friendly matches (one win, one draw, and two losses).

Unchanged Continental Status: Morocco Remains 5th in Africa

Despite its global decline, Morocco retains its position as the 5th African nation, trailing behind:

  • Nigeria (37th in the world)

  • South Africa (55th)

  • Ghana (62nd)

  • Zambia (65th)

A Stable Global Top 10

The hierarchy at the top remains almost unchanged despite a busy international period filled with qualifications and tournaments.

  • Spain: still 1st, buoyed by its world title and victory in the Nations League.

  • United States: stable at 2nd place.

  • Germany: the best progress in the Top 10, rising to 3rd place.

Conversely:

  • Sweden slips to 5th place.

  • France falls to 7th place.

  • Canada now finishes off the Top 10. Meanwhile, Brazil and North Korea each gain a place.

Significant Progress for Several Emerging Teams

Two New Nations Enter the FIFA Ranking

Chad and Libya officially enter the ranking following their international debuts at the FIFA Unites: Women’s Series tournament held in Morocco. With these new entries, the ranking reaches a historic record of 198 teams.

Some teams, such as Poland, Venezuela, Cape Verde, and Saudi Arabia, also achieved their highest rankings ever.
