Fire in Chefchaouen: Three Blazes Controlled, Efforts Ongoing to Extinguish the Last One

Efforts Continue to Combat Wildfire in Derdara Municipality

The firefighting operations aimed at tackling the wildfire that broke out in the Derdara municipality, part of the Chefchaouen province, have successfully contained three of the four major hotspots, as announced by the National Agency for Water and Forests (ANEF).

In a statement released on Wednesday, the ANEF clarified that several smaller blazes have been completely contained thanks to the efforts of the mobilized teams. Currently, the area affected by the fire is estimated to be around 500 hectares, encompassing both forested regions and some adjacent agricultural lands.

To address this disaster, approximately 450 personnel from various intervention units have been deployed, equipped with significant material and technical resources. This includes four "Canadair" aircraft and four "Turbo Thrush" planes, which are engaged in aerial operations to combat the flames.

The Agency emphasizes that these ongoing interventions have successfully prevented any loss of life. A significant improvement in the situation was observed between Tuesday and Wednesday, although the last active hotspot remains subject to intensive operations.

The entirety of human and logistical resources is being maintained until the wildfire is fully extinguished, the statement concludes.
