Forest Fires in Chefchaouen and Tétouan: Authorities on High Alert Amidst the Advance of Flames

Two wildfires have broken out in the forests of Derdara and Bab Taza, located within the provinces of Chefchaouen and Tétouan, raising significant concerns about their potential spread to populated areas.

On the ground, forestry teams, supported by civil protection units, are fully mobilized to control the flames and contain their spread. The primary objective is to protect nearby homes and minimize ecological damage.

In addition, two Canadair water bombers have been deployed in the afternoon. These aircraft are conducting continuous rotations to drop substantial volumes of water on the most intense hotspots.

However, the operations are complicated by the rugged terrain of the region and the inaccessibility of certain areas, which slow down firefighters’ interventions and make it challenging to extinguish the fires completely.
