Friday’s Weather: Harsh Winter Conditions, Heavy Rain, and Snowfall Expected in Several Regions of the Kingdom

Meteorological Outlook for Friday

The General Directorate of Meteorology forecasts a wintery weather pattern for this Friday, characterized by a marked drop in temperatures and snowfall on the peaks of the High and Middle Atlas, as well as in the Rif region, starting from an altitude of 1,100 meters. Snowfall is also expected on the eastern high plateaus at elevations beginning at 1,200 meters.

Heavy Rainfall in Multiple Regions

Strong rain and showers are anticipated in several areas across the country, particularly in Tangier, Loukkos, the Rif, the Mediterranean coast, northern Oriental regions, as well as the High and Middle Atlas and their adjacent areas. The Saïss region and the Atlantic plains north of Essaouira will also be affected.

Overcast Skies and Scattered Rain in the South

The sky will be partly to mostly cloudy, with rain expected in the Souss region and in the northern Southern provinces. Light precipitation is also predicted in the southern part of Oriental and across the other Saharan provinces, while temperatures will remain relatively cool in the Atlas mountains.

Strong Winds and Rough Seas

Strong to locally severe gusts of wind are expected in Tangier, the northern Atlantic plains, the Mediterranean coast, the Oriental region, the Atlas mountains, the Southeast, and the Southern provinces.

Notable Drop in Temperatures

Minimum temperatures are forecast to range from -4 to -1 degrees Celsius in the High and Middle Atlas, between -2 and 6 degrees in the Rif and high plateaus, while southern regions and coastal areas will see temperatures between 12 and 16 degrees. Elsewhere, temperatures will fall between 8 and 12 degrees. Maximum temperatures may experience a slight increase in southern Oriental and Southern provinces, while other regions may see a slight decrease.

Sea Conditions

The sea will be rough to very rough along the Mediterranean coast, moderately to rough in the Strait and south of Tarfaya, and rough to very rough north of Tarfaya.
