Heatwave Alert: Temperatures Expected to Reach up to 47°C in Several Regions of Morocco

Intense Heatwave Expected Across Multiple Provinces

An intense heatwave, accompanied by the dry "chergui" winds, is set to impact numerous provinces of the Kingdom from Wednesday to Saturday, according to an orange alert bulletin issued by the General Directorate of Meteorology (DGM).

Forecasts indicate extreme temperatures ranging from 44°C to 47°C in the provinces of Tata, Assa-Zag, Es-Semara, Boujdour, and Oued Ed-Dahab throughout this period.

Other regions will also experience significant temperature rises. Highs between 42°C and 44°C are anticipated on Wednesday and Thursday in the following provinces: Ouezzane, Fès, Moulay Yacoub, Taounate, Meknès, Sidi Kacem, Khémisset, Sidi Slimane, Fquih Ben Salah, Beni Mellal, Khouribga, Azilal, Settat, Al Haouz, Chichaoua, Youssoufia, El Kelaa des Sraghna, Marrakech, Rehamna, Taroudant, Guelmim, and Laâyoune.

Additionally, temperatures ranging from 38°C to 42°C are expected in the provinces of Taza, El Hajeb, Sefrou, Khénifra, Médiouna, Nouaceur, as well as the interior regions of Tangier-Assilah, Larache, Kénitra, Salé, Skhirat-Témara, Berrechid, El Jadida, Benslimane, Sidi Bennour, and Safi.

Finally, for Friday and Saturday, temperatures are projected to reach between 39°C and 44°C across several provinces, including Ouezzane, Meknès, Fès, Sefrou, Moulay Yacoub, El Hajeb, Taza, Taounate, Sidi Kacem, Sidi Slimane, Khémisset, Beni Mellal, Khénifra, Khouribga, Azilal, Fquih Ben Salah, Settat, Rehamna, Chichaoua, Al Haouz, El Kelaa des Sraghna, Marrakech, Youssoufia, Taroudant, and Guelmim.

The DGM urges vigilance in light of this ongoing heatwave.
