Historic Kickoff of the First Women’s Futsal Africa Cup of Nations in Rabat

The very first edition of the Women’s Africa Futsal Cup of Nations (CAN) kicks off this Tuesday in Rabat, marking a significant step forward for the development of women’s futsal on the continent. The inaugural match will see Angola facing Guinea at 2:00 PM, as part of the first day of Group B, at the Prince Moulay Abdellah Sports Complex indoor arena.

This unprecedented tournament will run until April 30 and features nine African teams divided into three groups:

  • Group A: Morocco (host nation), Cameroon, Namibia

  • Group B: Angola, Guinea, Egypt

  • Group C: Tanzania, Senegal, Madagascar

According to the Confederation of African Football (CAF), women’s futsal is experiencing sustained growth in Africa, akin to that of women’s football. This momentum is driven by the commitment of national federations and the aspirations of a youth eager for recognition. “All eyes are now on Rabat, where this discipline dares to dream bigger,” stated the CAF.

Morocco will kick off its campaign this Tuesday at 8:00 PM against Namibia. Confident and determined, the Atlas Lionesses aim to leave their mark on this inaugural edition. National coach Adil Sayeh expressed his optimism at a press conference:
“Our players are ready to take on the challenge. With the support of the Royal Moroccan Football Federation, we have implemented a rigorous strategy, which includes preparation matches against high-level opponents.”

The tournament format stipulates that the winners of each group will qualify directly for the semi-finals, while a fourth spot will be awarded to the best second-placed team among the three groups.

Finally, this continental competition holds particular significance as it will also serve as a stepping stone to the world stage: the two finalist teams will earn their tickets to the Women’s Futsal World Cup, set to take place in the Philippines from November 27 to December 7, 2025.
