The CAF Awards 2025 ceremony, held on Wednesday evening in Rabat, celebrated an exceptional year for Moroccan football. Several players and national teams were recognized, reaffirming Morocco’s place among the great footballing nations of Africa.

Othmane Maamma Named Best Young African Player

Watford’s Moroccan forward, Othmane Maamma, won the award for Best Young African Player of the Year. This accolade adds to his title of best player at the U20 World Cup, which took place last October in Chile and was won by the Atlas Lions’ youth team.

Doha Madani Named Best Young African Player

Doha Madani, a member of AS FAR, was honored as the Best Young African Player. At just 20 years old, she is regarded as one of the brightest prospects in Moroccan and African women’s football.

Clement Mzize Wins the Goal of the Year Award

Tanzanian player Clement Mzize from TP Mazembe took home the trophy for Goal of the Year for 2025. Moroccan players Oussama Lamlioui and Ghizlane Chebbak, captain of the Lionesses of the Atlas, were also finalists.

U20 Lions Named Best Men’s National Team of the Year

After winning the U20 World Cup in Chile, the U20 Lions of the Atlas were named the African Men’s National Team of the Year. Morocco secured the world title on October 19 in Santiago with a commanding 2-0 victory against Argentina. This historic achievement marks a new milestone in the rise of national football.

Yassine Bounou, Best African Goalkeeper of the Year

Moroccan goalkeeper Yassine Bounou of Al-Hilal was named Best African Goalkeeper for 2025. He had an outstanding season with the Lions of the Atlas and was also included in the Best XI of the Club World Cup held in the United States.

Achraf Hakimi Crowned African Player of the Year 2025

The evening concluded with Achraf Hakimi being honored as the Best African Player of the Year. The Paris Saint-Germain defender, a European champion and a key player for the Moroccan national team, wins this prestigious title for the first time at the age of 27.

Hakimi outpaced Egyptian star Mohamed Salah, a two-time winner, and Nigerian Victor Osimhen, who claimed the award in 2023. Currently ranked 6th for the Ballon d’Or and already recognized with the Marc-Vivien Foé award, Hakimi solidifies his status as a global reference in his position.
