New Regional Annex of ISMAC Inaugurated in Dakhla to Bolster Film and Audiovisual Training
A regional annex of the Higher Institute of Audiovisual and Cinema Professions (ISMAC) was inaugurated on Monday in Dakhla. The ceremony was presided over by Mohamed Mehdi Bensaid, the Moroccan Minister of Youth, Culture, and Communication, alongside Rachida Dati, the French Minister of Culture.
This new facility aims to strengthen training opportunities in the audiovisual and cinema sectors by offering specialized courses to local youths in areas such as film direction, screenwriting, production, sound engineering, editing, and special effects.
In a statement to the press, Rachida Dati noted that the opening of this annex embodies a cooperation agreement between Morocco and France, signed in Cannes. This agreement is designed to give fresh momentum to cooperation in the fields of co-production and film exchanges, as well as in cultural sectors like cinema, media, audiovisuals, new technologies, and artificial intelligence. According to her, this partnership will benefit trainers, teachers, and students in the region alike.
Dati also emphasized the strong political significance of her visit to Dakhla, pointing out that the inauguration of this facility demonstrates the shared commitment of both countries to strengthen their robust partnership, particularly in the realm of culture.
For his part, Mohamed Mehdi Bensaid highlighted the importance of this cooperation agreement between Morocco and France in the cinematic domain. He shed light on the particular interest of His Majesty King Mohammed VI in developing human capital within the cultural sector. The minister underscored that the inauguration of this establishment will spark significant cultural dynamism in Dakhla, a city rich in natural potential that will attract numerous national and international filmmakers.
He added that this partnership with France represents a valuable opportunity to learn from French expertise and acquire new technical skills in the cinema and audiovisual fields, thereby enhancing the training of young people in these sectors.
The inauguration ceremony was attended by many dignitaries, including the French Ambassador to Morocco, Christophe Lecourtier, the Wali of the Dakhla-Oued Eddahab region, Ali Khalil, as well as local officials and cultural stakeholders.
