Interview between Lahcen Haddad and Keiko Fujimori: Strengthening Morocco-Peru Relations

Meetings between Moroccan and Peruvian Officials Highlight Strengthened Bilateral Ties

Lahcen Haddad, the Vice-President of the Chamber of Councillors, held discussions on Monday in Rabat with Keiko Fujimori, the President of the Peruvian political party "Popular Force." During their meeting, both parties expressed satisfaction with the depth of bilateral relations and emphasized the potential for expanding cooperation across various fields, buoyed by the positive momentum in political relations between Morocco and Peru, as stated in a communiqué from the Chamber of Councillors.

The exchanges between the two countries reflect an advanced stage of cooperation and coordination, solidified by high-level visits, most notably the historic visit of His Majesty King Mohammed VI to Peru in 2004. This visit marked a crucial milestone in strengthening bilateral ties and opened the door to new prospects for South-South cooperation, in line with His Majesty’s strategic vision.

The two sides also highlighted the cultural, linguistic, and civilizational links that unite the two nations, with a focus on their shared Andalusian heritage. On this occasion, Mr. Haddad praised Ms. Fujimori for her steadfast stance and that of her political party in support of Morocco’s national cause, acknowledging the Kingdom’s efforts in seeking a definitive resolution to the Moroccan Sahara conflict.

The Vice-President emphasized that the autonomy initiative presented by Morocco remains "the sole credible and serious basis" for resolving this long-standing regional conflict.

For her part, Ms. Fujimori clarified that her visit to Morocco was aimed at learning from the country’s experiences in various domains, while reaffirming her party’s support for Morocco’s territorial integrity and sovereignty over its entire territory.
