Launch of “African Lion 2025” Exercises: Morocco and the United States Strengthen Their Strategic Defense Partnership

The 21st edition of the military exercises “African Lion” kicked off this Monday, marking another step in strengthening the strategic partnership between Morocco and the United States. These joint exercises will continue until May 23 across various sites throughout the Kingdom, including Agadir, Tan-Tan, Tiznit, Kénitra, Ben Guerir, and Tifnit.
Organized by the Royal Armed Forces (FAR) in coordination with U.S. forces, these maneuvers reflect the convergence of interests between the two countries in terms of defense, regional security, and stability.
The 2025 edition comes amidst the ongoing consolidation of bilateral relations between Rabat and Washington and fits within a dynamic of increasingly strategic military cooperation. Morocco, a key regional player, is viewed by the United States as a vital partner in developing an integrated security and defense system within the Atlantic space.
This vision aligns with that of His Majesty King Mohammed VI, who places a central emphasis on the Atlantic axis in the geostrategic orientations of the Kingdom. In this context, “African Lion” has become a cornerstone of Moroccan-American military cooperation, enhancing operational capabilities and interoperability between the two nations’ armed forces while incorporating multilateral dimensions with the participation of other partner nations.
