Launch of the 49th edition of the Hassan II Trophy and the 28th edition of the Lalla Meryem Golf Cup

The 49th edition of the Hassan II Trophy and the 28th edition of the Lalla Meryem Cup have officially kicked off on Tuesday, February 4, 2025, at the Royal Golf Dar Es Salam in Rabat. These prestigious tournaments will continue until Saturday and are organized by the Royal Moroccan Golf Federation (FRMG) and the Hassan II Golf Trophy Association, under the High Patronage of His Majesty King Mohammed VI.
The Hassan II Trophy, which has become an unmissable event on the European Tour since 2010, features this year the participation of 66 champions from 12 countries, including 11 former winners of major tournaments who collectively boast 16 Grand Slam victories. Among the legendary players present are Scottish golfer Colin Montgomerie, Spaniard José María Olazábal, South African Retief Goosen, and his fellow countryman Ernie Els. Recent tournament champions, Canadian Stephen Ames (2023) and Argentine Ricardo Gonzalez (2024), will also be present to defend their titles.
The Hassan II Trophy will be preceded by a Pro-Am event, taking place on February 4 and 5, featuring both professional and amateur players on the Red Course. Meanwhile, the Lalla Meryem Cup, featuring 108 female golfers this year, will also be preceded by a Pro-Am on the Blue Course.
Since its inception in 1971, the Hassan II Trophy has attracted numerous golf legends, including Gary Player, Severiano Ballesteros, Billy Casper, Lee Trevino, and Nick Price. The Lalla Meryem Cup, established in 1993, has become a major stop on the Ladies European Tour (LET), drawing the elite of women’s golf each year. Notable participants include Swiss Chiara Tamburlini, winner of the LET Order of Merit 2024, as well as Moroccan golfers like Ines Laklalech, who finished seventh last year, and Maha Haddioui, competing for the 12th consecutive year at the European elite level.
The “Pro-Am Hassan II Kids Cup by First Tee” competition will take place on Wednesday on the Green Course, bringing together professional players and young golfers from the national “First Tee Morocco” program.
The competitions will conclude on Saturday with the awards ceremony for the winners of both tournaments. Morocco remains the only country to host both a men’s and a women’s event on the European golf calendar in the same city, on the same dates, and at the same venue.
