Magnitude 5.8 Earthquake in Indonesia: 29 Injured and Several Aftershocks Recorded

A magnitude 5.8 earthquake struck eastern Indonesia on Sunday morning, injuring at least 29 people, according to data provided by the United States Geological Survey (USGS).
The epicenter of the quake was located approximately 15 kilometers north of the Poso district in Central Sulawesi province. The event was followed by at least 15 aftershocks, according to local authorities.
Indonesia, a vast archipelago situated on the Pacific “Ring of Fire,” is frequently affected by seismic tremors. This region of the globe is characterized by significant tectonic activity, with tectonic plates often colliding.
It is worth noting that in January 2021, a 6.2 magnitude earthquake also struck the island of Sulawesi, resulting in over 100 fatalities and leaving thousands of residents homeless.
