Magnitude 7.6 Earthquake Strikes Near Tonga in the South Pacific Ocean

A magnitude 7.6 earthquake struck near Tonga in the South Pacific on Tuesday, according to the U.S. Geological Survey (USGS).
The epicenter of the tremor was located 153 kilometers west of Nukuʻalofa, the second-largest city in the archipelago.
So far, there have been no reports of casualties or material damage, and no tsunami warning has been issued.
It’s worth noting that Central America is regularly affected by seismic activity due to the interaction of the Caribbean and Cocos tectonic plates in this region of the Pacific.
