Mohammed V University: Quality at the Heart of Progress

Rabat – The embedding of a quality culture in higher education is a crucial lever to enhance university performance and increase the contribution of universities to national development. This was the assertion made by speakers during a meeting organized on Tuesday by Mohammed V University (UM5) in Rabat, marking World Quality Day under the theme: “Quality in University: Thinking Differently”.

A Participatory Vision of University Quality

This meeting provided an opportunity to view quality not as an administrative constraint, but as a philosophy of action, rooted in innovation, participation, and collective responsibility. The discussions highlighted the necessity of modernizing pedagogical practices, integrating digitalization, and placing students at the heart of the university transformation process.

Mohamed El Ghachi: “Thinking Differently Means Innovating Together”

The president of UM5, Mohamed El Ghachi, emphasized that “thinking differently about quality” involves adopting an innovative mindset that fosters cooperation, creativity, and institutional renewal. He stressed the need to stimulate collective intelligence, develop organizational culture, and make pedagogical practices more inclusive and interactive.

Mr. El Ghachi also highlighted the importance of digital governance, viewed as a strategic pillar of the Moroccan university development project for 2024–2028, which places students at the center of quality initiatives.

An Approach Aligned with the Sustainable Development Goals

Mohammed V University is committed to making quality a tool for innovation and sustainability, in line with the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs). The institution is dedicated to enhancing transparency, equity, social responsibility, and academic excellence while integrating artificial intelligence technologies into university management.

ANEAQ: “Evaluate to Evolve”

The director of the National Agency for Evaluation and Assurance of Higher Education and Scientific Research (ANEAQ), Rachid Hilal, reminded attendees that quality has now become an indispensable national mission. Under the motto “Evaluate to Evolve”, the agency has supported 79 universities in their institutional evaluation processes, thereby facilitating strategic diagnostics for continuous improvement.

A Concrete Commitment to Institutional Performance

Zineb Alaoui, representative of the Internal Quality Assurance Office at UM5, presented the steps taken in establishing a comprehensive quality system. This initiative aims to enhance institutional performance, increase transparency, and optimize effectiveness indicators across all university structures.

A Collective Project Serving Students and Society

According to the organizers, this meeting reflects Mohammed V University’s aspiration to make quality a driving force for progress and inclusion. It aligns with a participatory and integrated approach, showcasing values of justice, equal opportunity, and continuous improvement.

Through this initiative, the university reaffirms its role as a pioneer in the modernization of Moroccan higher education and its commitment to providing excellence in education that serves national development.
