Moroccan Cultural Days Illuminate Place Saint-Michel in Paris
The Vibrant Colors of Morocco Enliven Paris’ Saint-Michel Square for Moroccan Cultural Days
On Friday afternoon, the iconic Saint-Michel Square in Paris was adorned with the vibrant colors of Morocco to launch the "Moroccan Cultural Days," an event organized by the Consulate General of Morocco in Paris in collaboration with the City Hall of the 6th arrondissement. This celebration is set to continue until April 13.
Nestled in the heart of the Latin Quarter, the temporary village offers an immersive experience into Moroccan culture, featuring a souk-like atmosphere complete with aromatic spices, traditional craftsmanship, and authentic gastronomy from the Kingdom.
The event was inaugurated by Morocco’s ambassador to France, Samira Sitail, accompanied by Consul General Nada Bakkali Hassani and Mayor Jean-Pierre Lecoq. The launch took place in a festive atmosphere, marked by patriotic songs and a robust presence of the Moroccan community celebrating its identity and roots.
Samira Sitail expressed her pride in showcasing "Moroccan heritage," highlighting artisanal treasures such as zellij (decorative tiled mosaics), carpet weaving, and goldsmithing—ancient crafts that define Morocco’s identity. She emphasized the significance of the event in strengthening cultural and friendly ties between France and Morocco.
Meanwhile, Nada Bakkali Hassani underscored the importance of these days in presenting the richness of Moroccan culture at the heart of Paris, praising the participation of several Moroccan associations that traveled from the Kingdom to showcase their work. She also reminded attendees of the Moroccan community’s deep connection to its roots and identity in France.
Jean-Pierre Lecoq, the mayor of the 6th arrondissement, expressed his delight in hosting this "magnificent Moroccan village" in Saint-Michel Square, a symbolic site illustrating the historical ties between the two countries. He shared his enthusiasm for the turnout on the opening day, noting that the event allows French visitors to discover Morocco while giving Moroccans in Paris a chance to reconnect with their heritage. He also announced the upcoming establishment of a "Moroccan Cultural Center in Paris" on Boulevard Saint-Michel.
Even before the official launch of the "Moroccan Cultural Days," this event was listed as one of the "must-visit" attractions in Paris and the Île-de-France region, recommended by the city guide "Sortiraparis.com." The guide described it as a total escape, featuring a diverse program that allows visitors to explore Morocco through its traditions, lifestyle, and culinary specialties.
Visitors had the opportunity to explore stands dedicated to gastronomy, craftsmanship, and various cultural activities, all while being transported to a warm Moroccan ambiance just steps away from the Seine.
