Morocco and Palestine Strengthen Their Cooperation in the Transportation and Logistics Sectors

A Memorandum of Understanding was signed on Wednesday in Marrakech between Morocco and Palestine to strengthen cooperation in the areas of air, maritime, and road transport, as well as logistics. This partnership was established by Abdessamad Kayouh, the Moroccan Minister of Transport and Logistics, and Tarek Zaghreb, the Palestinian Minister of Transport and Telecommunications.
The agreement outlines several key areas of cooperation, including the exchange of expertise, training for Palestinian officials, and support for Palestine in port and airport management, as well as road transport. It also includes the transfer of Moroccan experience in the development and management of logistics zones.
In the field of air transport, both parties are committed to enhancing airport management and air services. This includes training for Palestinian civil aviation officials, technical assistance for the reconstruction of Yasser Arafat International Airport in Gaza, and support for Palestine’s accession to the International Civil Aviation Organization (ICAO).
Regarding maritime transport, the Memorandum of Understanding provides for the transfer of Moroccan expertise in commercial shipping management, ship safety, port control, and maritime crisis management. It also includes assistance in drafting legislative texts and training Palestinian officials, as well as support for Palestine’s accession to the International Maritime Organization (IMO).
Concerning road transport, the agreement proposes exchanges of expertise, technical assistance, and training programs, particularly for mutual recognition of driving licenses.
Finally, in the logistics sector, this agreement aims to promote the development of logistics zones and encourage the private sector to invest in logistics services, while also supporting training in this field.
During the signing ceremony, Tarek Zaghreb expressed his gratitude to His Majesty King Mohammed VI for his continuous support of Palestine and his efforts for the region. He also emphasized that this agreement, signed during the 4th Global Ministerial Conference on Road Safety, will enhance cooperation in the transport and logistics sectors and further train Palestinian officials.
