Morocco Elected Vice President of AMCOW for the North Africa Region (2025-2027)

During the 6th extraordinary session of the Executive Committee of the AMCOW Administrative Council, held this Monday, Morocco was appointed as the vice-president for the North Africa region on the Council of African Ministers responsible for Water (AMCOW) for the 2025-2027 term.
In his video conference address, Minister of Equipment and Water, Nizar Baraka, congratulated the outgoing presidency, Egypt, for the excellent work accomplished during its term and wished full success to Senegal, which will take over the AMCOW presidency for the upcoming period. He also expressed gratitude to Mauritania, the outgoing vice-president for the region, for its ongoing efforts in favor of water issues in a region facing significant challenges related to water stress.
The minister assured that Morocco, now succeeding Mauritania, will continue the vice-presidency’s efforts for the North Africa region and will implement actions aimed at addressing water-related challenges. He emphasized that, in accordance with the High Royal Guidelines, cooperation with African countries is a priority axis of Morocco’s foreign policy, and that the water sector plays an increasingly important role in this dynamic, especially in light of the impacts of climate change.
Mr. Baraka also reaffirmed Morocco’s commitment to sharing its experience and best practices in water management with African countries, while seeking to draw inspiration from successful initiatives across the continent.
Finally, the minister highlighted the importance of developing an African Water Vision post-2025 to tackle the sector’s challenges in Africa. In this regard, he announced that Morocco will soon host a regional technical consultation meeting to prepare this vision for the North Africa region.
