Morocco Gains New Rights as a Partnership for Democracy with the Council of Europe

Morocco Strengthens Ties with Council of Europe by Securing Enhanced Rights
Morocco has taken a significant step forward in its relationship with the Council of Europe by obtaining additional rights as a Partner for Democracy with the Parliamentary Assembly of the Council of Europe (PACE), a milestone reached on Monday in Strasbourg.
During its winter session, the Assembly ratified a resolution from its bureau, based on a proposal from the Political Affairs and Democracy Committee, granting the Kingdom several prerogatives that will enhance its involvement in this prestigious institution.
Among the rights granted to Morocco are the ability to submit proposals for recommendations, resolutions, and amendments. Additionally, Morocco can request current affairs debates, lead these discussions, and file written statements. The Kingdom can also be appointed as a rapporteur for information reports and participate in meetings of the Permanent Committee.
A delegation of around ten parliamentarians from both the House of Representatives and the House of Councillors represents Morocco at this session.
According to MP Allal Amraoui, a member of the Moroccan delegation, this new acknowledgment reflects PACE’s appreciation for the notable advancements made under the leadership of His Majesty King Mohammed VI, particularly in the areas of democratization and the establishment of the rule of law.
This status opens up new prospects for a strengthened dialogue between Moroccan parliamentarians and their European counterparts, fostering the exchange of experiences and best practices. It also highlights the recognition of Morocco’s strategic role in the Euro-Mediterranean and African regions, particularly in terms of stability, sustainable development, and regional cooperation.
