Morocco Mobilized for the 2025 AFCON: A Development Initiative Surrounding the Host Cities

A meeting was held on Thursday at the Ministry of the Interior to assess the progress of construction and rehabilitation work on stadiums in six Moroccan cities that will host matches for the Africa Cup of Nations (CAN) 2025: Rabat, Casablanca, Tangier, Fez, Marrakech, and Tetouan. This meeting is part of the rigorous follow-up on the Kingdom’s preparations for organizing this major continental event, scheduled for December 2025.

According to a statement from the ministry, it was emphasized that the construction projects are progressing according to the planned schedules, and all necessary measures have been taken to ensure their completion within the specified deadlines.

In addition to the sports infrastructure, complementary urban upgrading programs have also been launched in these cities. These initiatives aim to improve mobility, modernize infrastructure, renovate the areas surrounding the stadiums, and create spaces dedicated to welcoming visitors and organizing activities. The goal is to ensure optimal hospitality for delegations and supporters.

To date, over 120 projects are underway in the affected cities, and all assurances have been provided that they will be completed before next December.

The organization of CAN 2025 represents a strategic opportunity for Morocco. It will enhance the country’s international standing, showcase its economic, cultural, and tourist assets, and inject new dynamism into its economy.

The meeting was attended by the Minister of the Interior, the Minister Delegate for the Budget and President of the Royal Moroccan Football Federation (FRMF), regional governors, presidents of the regional and municipal councils of the cities involved, as well as senior officials from public institutions and national agencies involved in the project.
