Morocco Reaffirms Its Support for Yemen’s Legitimate Government and Calls for a Sustainable Political Solution

Morocco Reiterates Support for Yemeni Presidential Leadership

On Friday in Rabat, Morocco’s Minister of Foreign Affairs, African Cooperation, and Moroccan Expatriates, Nasser Bourita, reaffirmed the Kingdom’s unwavering support for the Presidential Leadership Council, recognized as the legitimate authority of the Republic of Yemen. This statement was made during a joint press conference with Yemeni Foreign Minister and Expatriates, Shayea Mohsen Al-Zindani, following the 6th session of the Morocco-Yemen Joint Commission.

Bourita emphasized that the resolution of the Yemeni crisis must come through a sustainable political solution that respects Yemen’s sovereignty and territorial integrity. He underscored the importance of adhering to United Nations Security Council resolutions, particularly Resolution 2216, as well as the Gulf Cooperation Council initiative and its implementation mechanisms, along with recommendations from the Yemeni national dialogue.

Morocco firmly expressed its rejection of any foreign interference, especially Iranian support for Houthi militias, stating that such interference undermines Yemeni sovereignty, contributes to its destabilization, and threatens its territorial integrity and national unity.

The minister stressed that any solution to the crisis must respect the will of the Yemeni people and their legitimate authorities. He urged regional and international parties to support the Yemeni people without seeking to replace them in addressing their own challenges.

Bourita also highlighted the significance that His Majesty King Mohammed VI places on the humanitarian aspects of the Yemeni crisis, reminding that, under Royal High Instructions, Morocco had made a financial contribution during the high-level meeting for the Humanitarian Response Plan for Yemen in 2021.

In conclusion, the minister called upon the international community to support the legitimate Yemeni government in its efforts to meet the humanitarian needs of the Yemeni people, reaffirming Morocco’s ongoing commitment to contribute to any international efforts in this regard.
