Morocco Honored at the 4th Cotonou Cinematic and Digital Encounters
From October 5 to 11, the 4th edition of the Cotonou Cinematic and Digital Encounters (ReCiCo) took place, highlighting Morocco’s pioneering role in promoting and developing African cinema. Organized in partnership with the Moroccan Embassy in Benin and the Moroccan Cinematographic Center (CCM), the event garnered attention from Beninese officials, who praised Morocco’s commitment to the continent’s film industry.
During the closing ceremony, speakers emphasized the importance of Moroccan support for African film industry players, particularly through initiatives aimed at training and experience sharing. They also highlighted the festivals and artistic events organized by Morocco, which contribute to promoting the cultural and artistic diversity of Africa.
The event was further marked by the presentation of the Grand Prize in the "Feature Films" category to Moroccan director Moulay Taieb Bouhanana for his film "Sahari Slem Wesaa." Additionally, Moroccan cinema received the third prize in the "Documentary" category, awarded to director Fatima Aglaz for her work "Dernière mine."
A Moroccan film delegation consisting of eight directors and producers attended the event, allowing for a greater awareness of Moroccan cinema and the sharing of its experiences with other African countries.
Out of a total of 117 cinematic works from 21 African countries and the diaspora, the official competition selected nine feature films, 26 short films, and 14 documentaries. The edition also included training workshops on topics such as screenwriting, acting, and cinematography, along with a symposium discussing the role of cinema in combating violent extremism.
