New Station to Ensure Safe Drinking Water

Tan-Tan: ONEE Completes Water Demineralization Station Expansion

The National Office of Electricity and Drinking Water (ONEE) has announced the completion of the expansion project for the Tan-Tan demineralization station, a strategic infrastructure aimed at securing the drinking water supply for the city and its surrounding areas.

The inauguration took place in the presence of the province’s governor, Abdallah Chater, coinciding with the 50th anniversary of the Green March. This event reinforced national efforts towards water sovereignty and sustainable development in the Southern provinces.

An Investment of 80 Million Dirhams to Increase Production Capacity

Funded by an 80 million dirham budget through a loan from the Saudi Development Fund, the project focuses on expanding the station that treats water from the Sehb El Harcha aquifer. The extension provides an additional capacity of 4,300 cubic meters per day, raising the total production capacity of the site to nearly 13,000 cubic meters per day, according to the office’s statement.

Modern and Energy-Efficient Technology

The new facility utilizes reverse osmosis technology and incorporates advanced energy recovery systems. These systems will help reduce the carbon footprint, enhance energy efficiency, and optimize production costs, aligning with national goals for sustainable transition.

A Project Integrated into the National Program for Drinking Water and Irrigation 2020-2027

This significant project is part of the National Program for Drinking Water Supply and Irrigation 2020-2027 (PNAEPI), which was signed in front of His Majesty King Mohammed VI.

Thanks to this expansion, the drinking water supply for 92,000 residents will now be ensured, directly contributing to the socio-economic development of the region and enhancing the water resilience of the Southern provinces.
