New Station to Secure Drinking Water

Tan-Tan: Completion of the Water Desalination Plant Expansion

The National Office of Electricity and Drinking Water (ONEE) has announced the completion of the expansion project for the desalination plant in Tan-Tan. This strategic infrastructure aims to secure the drinking water supply for the city and its surrounding areas.

The inauguration took place in the presence of the provincial governor, Abdallah Chater, coinciding with the 50th anniversary of the Green March. This event reinforces national efforts towards water sovereignty and sustainable development in the southern provinces.

An Investment of 80 Million Dirhams to Increase Production Capacity

Executed with a budget of 80 million dirhams, funded by ONEE through a loan from the Saudi Development Fund, this project involves the expansion of the plant that processes water from the Sehb El Harcha aquifer. The expansion adds an additional capacity of 4,300 cubic meters per day, bringing the site’s total production to nearly 13,000 cubic meters per day, according to the office’s statement.

Modern and Energy-Efficient Technology

The new facility utilizes reverse osmosis technology and incorporates advanced energy recovery systems. These features will help reduce the carbon footprint, enhance energy efficiency, and optimize production costs, aligning with national objectives for sustainable transition.

A Project Embedded in the 2020-2027 National Drinking Water Supply and Irrigation Program

This pivotal project is part of the National Program for Drinking Water Supply and Irrigation 2020-2027 (PNAEPI), the agreement for which was signed in the presence of His Majesty King Mohammed VI. With this expansion, the drinking water supply for 92,000 residents will now be secured, directly contributing to the socio-economic development of the region and enhancing water resilience in the southern provinces.
