Private Audiovisual Sector – Morocco: ARTI Radios Claim Over 15.5 Million Listeners

Casablanca Hosts ARTI’s General Assembly Amidst Major Media Landscape Shifts
The Independent Radio and Television Association (ARTI) convened in Casablanca for its annual general assembly, set against the backdrop of significant transformations within the national media landscape. This event also marked the 20th anniversary of the opening of the audiovisual sector to private initiative.
During this occasion, ARTI highlighted the critical importance of the cumulative audience of the private radio stations it represents, which currently exceeds 15.5 million listeners nationwide. This figure underscores the strategic role these media outlets play in providing citizens with daily information, particularly at local and regional levels.
Discussions at the assembly provided an opportunity to assess the recent actions taken by the Association, particularly in terms of internal reorganization, strengthening governance rules, and enhancing communication with relevant institutions. Participants praised the continuity of the momentum initiated by the current leadership team.
At the conclusion of the proceedings, a common vision for the sector was established through the adoption of a roadmap centered on several priorities: adapting the legal and regulatory framework, enhancing the economic viability of private media, supporting the digital transition, improving working conditions for professionals, and evolving distribution methods to meet new consumption habits.
In an environment characterized by the rapid and widespread flow of information, members emphasized the editorial responsibility of audiovisual operators, urging greater vigilance against misinformation and the promotion of journalism grounded in rigor and source verification.
Finally, the assembly underscored the necessity of developing partnerships with international audiovisual players, particularly in the Arab, African, and European regions, to foster knowledge exchange and the dissemination of content that meets international professional standards.
