Qatar Reaffirms Its Rejection of Any Escalation Threatening Regional Security

Qatar’s Foreign Ministry Reaffirms Commitment to Regional Stability

The Qatar Ministry of Foreign Affairs has reiterated the country’s stance against any actions that could exacerbate tensions or jeopardize security and stability in the region.

Support for Diplomatic Initiatives

During a press conference, Majed Al-Ansari, advisor to the Prime Minister and official spokesperson, emphasized that Qatar is currently focused on defending its sovereignty and territory against attacks. He clarified that, at this stage, Qatar is not involved in mediation efforts but supports diplomatic initiatives aimed at reducing tensions and ending the conflict.

Strengthened Defense Capabilities

Al-Ansari highlighted that the Qatari armed forces have successfully countered over 90% of attack attempts, thus ensuring the maintenance of security and the normal functioning of daily life, while firmly asserting the country’s right to retaliate against any aggression.

Alert to Escalating Concerns

He warned that the ongoing escalation, unresolved since 2023, poses increasing risks and could lead to a worsening situation, particularly due to the crossing of several “red lines,” especially the targeting of critical infrastructure.

Protection of Civilians and Infrastructure

Majed Al-Ansari stressed that attacks on civilian facilities, such as power plants and water treatment stations, pose a direct threat to populations and undermine infrastructure. He also cautioned against the dangers of targeting energy and nuclear facilities, which could result in severe consequences such as radioactive contamination or power outages.

The Strait of Hormuz: A Global Concern

He further emphasized that the security of the Strait of Hormuz is a major regional and international issue, given its crucial role in energy supply and global supply chains.

Ongoing International Coordination

Finally, the Qatari official noted that the country continues to coordinate with various partners, including Pakistan, to support efforts aimed at achieving sustainable de-escalation. He mentioned the ongoing dialogues among leaders in the Gulf and the Arab world, reflecting a shared commitment to safeguarding regional security and the interests of their populations.
