Real Madrid Scrapes Through Against Elche (2-2)

Real Madrid Climbs Back to the Top with Late Equalizer Against Elche

Real Madrid narrowly escaped defeat on Sunday, drawing 2-2 with newly promoted Elche, securing a valuable point that restored their lead atop La Liga, ahead of FC Barcelona.

In a dramatic finish, Jude Bellingham emerged as the savior for Madrid, capitalizing on a scramble in the box after being set up by Kylian Mbappé, scoring in the 87th minute to level the game at 2-2. This came after Elche had taken the lead again with a brilliant strike from Álvaro Rodríguez in the 84th minute, a former Real academy player.

Earlier in the match, Dean Huijsen had brought Real back into contention with a goal from a corner in the 78th minute, responding to Aleix Febas’s opener for Elche in the 53rd minute, another player with ties to the prestigious Casa Blanca academy.

Despite the draw, Real Madrid holds onto first place in the league with 32 points, although their once-comfortable five-point lead from the Clasico has shrunk to just one point, as Barcelona secured a convincing 4-0 victory against Athletic Bilbao the previous day.

After failing to secure a win in three consecutive matches across all competitions, the Madrid club will face mounting pressure in the coming weeks from their historic rival.
