Reconstruction of the Hassan II Regional Hospital Center in Agadir: A Project Worth 1.1 Billion Dirhams Launched

Ministerial Meeting on the Reconstruction Project for Hassan II Regional Hospital in Agadir

The Minister of Health and Social Protection, Amine Tahraoui, accompanied by the Wali of the Souss-Massa region, Saïd Amzazi, chaired a meeting focused on the plans for the reconstruction of the Hassan II Regional Hospital in Agadir. This initiative is part of the overarching reform of the national healthcare system.

The project aims to modernize healthcare services in the region, as the current facility, inaugurated in 1961, no longer meets the standards required for contemporary health services—both in terms of infrastructure and the quality of patient care.

The new hospital structure will be rebuilt on the same site and will consist of four floors, with a capacity of between 415 and 450 beds, along with state-of-the-art medical equipment. The project also plans to enhance emergency medical services (SAMU) and develop oncology departments. The total investment is estimated at approximately 1.1 billion dirhams, with the goal of significantly improving healthcare quality in the region.

To allow for construction to begin, the facility is set to temporarily close at the end of March 2026. Measures are being implemented to ensure the continuity of health services. Emergency services, expectant mothers in labor, and patients requiring hospitalization will be redirected to the Mohammed VI University Hospital in Agadir. Routine consultations and examinations will be managed at the “Day Clinic” affiliated with the hospital.

Moreover, healthcare service offerings will be bolstered in neighboring provinces to alleviate pressure on existing facilities, while health centers will continue to provide their services. Medical staff will also be redeployed within the regional network, ensuring that all their rights are maintained.

The Ministry of Health has assured that all necessary arrangements have been made to guarantee the continuity of services under optimal conditions, in a coordinated and safe manner. It emphasized that this project aligns with a comprehensive vision aimed at sustainably improving healthcare infrastructure and service quality.

Finally, the ministry expressed gratitude to citizens for their understanding and cooperation, reaffirming its commitment to ensuring the continuity of services throughout the duration of the construction works under the best possible conditions.
