Rise in Wadi Loukkos Levels in Larache: Authorities Urge Caution

The town of Ksar El Kebir, located in the Larache province, has experienced a significant rise in the water levels of the Wadi Loukkos, prompting local authorities to strengthen preventive measures to protect residents and neighborhoods at risk of flooding.
Temporary Dikes to Secure Risk Areas
The provincial director of Equipment and Water in Larache, Azeddine Ait Taleb, stated that the construction of temporary dikes is underway to prevent the waters of the Wadi Loukkos from reaching residential areas. He emphasized that these measures aim to safeguard human lives, property, and the security of citizens, especially in light of the ongoing heavy rainfall.
A Monitoring and Surveillance Unit on the Ground
Since Tuesday, a monitoring and surveillance unit, chaired by the province’s governor, Alamein Bouassam, has been deployed to closely monitor the developments of the situation following the alert bulletin issued by the General Directorate of Meteorology. Inspections have focused on several vulnerable points along the Wadi Loukkos to ensure timely and appropriate measures are taken.
Maximum Alert and Mobilization of All Stakeholders
Provincial authorities have declared a state of maximum alert for all concerned services, including security forces, the Loukkos Hydraulic Basin Agency, the regional multi-service company, the provincial Directorate of Equipment and Water, as well as the local municipality of Ksar El Kebir. This vigilance comes in response to the water discharge from the Wadi Mkhazine dam in recent days due to heavy rains.
Call for Vigilance and Cooperation from Residents
Authorities have urged residents to demonstrate responsibility and cooperation, urging them to remain vigilant until the exceptional weather situation has passed. It is worth noting that cumulative rainfall since September in the province has exceeded 600 mm, leading to the complete filling of the Wadi Mkhazine dam, thereby underscoring the necessity of these preventive measures.
